My story

I came to medicine from the law. At 30, I went back to university to study medicine.

I was called to the Bar in 1992 and have practised from Nine Chambers, Manchester, ever since. Orthopaedic and medical evidence sat at the centre of my cases, and a fascination with orthopaedics grew from there. I qualified in medicine at the University of Manchester in 2010.

I trained in trauma and orthopaedics at Leeds General Infirmary, a major trauma centre, then completed upper limb fellowships in Cape Town and at Wrightington. I am now a consultant elbow and shoulder surgeon at Salford Royal Major Trauma Centre.

The law came first, and it shapes every report I write. As counsel and as a coroner, I have spent years reading, testing and relying on expert opinion. I know what the court needs from it.
